Striped blazers, strings of pearls, frills, feathers, and braces came out of the closet at the NDMT Taradale Rest Home & Continuing Care on the 14th of February. Not only was it Valentine’s Day but everyone was able to get into Art Deco mode once again, after the disruption in previous years of cyclones and covid.
The residents and staff relived the Art Deco era of glitz and glamour by dressing up and enjoying a scrumptious celebratory lunch while being entertained with 1930’s music, dancers and all that jazz!
The Napier Art Deco Festival is an iconic national and international event that marks the resilience of the region’s communities who in the aftermath of the 1931 earthquake got together and rebuilt the city in art deco architecture. That same resilience was evident last year when on the 14 February Cyclone Gabrielle swept through Hawkes Bay leaving devastation and destruction in its wake.
