What do you do with a tired and rarely used residents sitting room?
“Let’s have a Cinema Room!” was the enthusiastic solution from the NDMT CEO Vicki Lee.
The once tired looking space at Taradale Rest Home & Hospital, is now draped in luxurious floor-to-ceiling curtains, the paint work is metallic pewter and old-time movie stars grace the walls. A very large screen plays movies twice a day to rest home movie goers who sit on comfy teal velvet armchairs enjoying a film and the snacks provided at intermission.
The screenings have increased from once to twice a day as more residents enjoy films that transport them into a time of nostalgia or big belly laughs, romance or happy tears.
For some who find their hearing and sight isn’t as sharp as it once was, the more intimate surroundings without other distractions gives them more audible and visual clarity.
Taradale residents Anne & Pip are regulars and love it. “We now go mainly to the evening sessions; it’s a nice way to finish the day,” said Pip.
Anne agreed “We’re so spoilt with ice creams, snacks and often a cup of tea. We love it!”
