2025 WT Dobson Scholarship Awards Recipients

So often the media picks up on the negative aspects of our younger generation, when most of our children and grandchildren are working hard to succeed in life and their achievements can be outstanding.

This becomes apparent when we read the applications from those applying for scholarships through the WT Dobson Trust at the Napier District Masonic Trust.  Each year the trustees award 3-year scholarships to students going onto tertiary education.   They look for excellence in academic studies as well as involvement in school activities and their community.

Just reading the list of activities the students are involved in is exhausting. They are school leaders who achieve with distinction & excellence, they are footballers, netballers, dancers in all forms of dance, they are musicians and choir leaders, cooks, software programmers and designers – the list is endless.

Outside of school all the applicants are actively involved in the community. They have volunteered through the cyclone recovery and covid. They referee and instruct all ages in health and sport.  The local theatres and choirs benefit from their involvement as do many sports and community groups.  Some of the applicants have already represented New Zealand on the international stage.

“Kids these days” are kids we can be proud of.
